Empowering women is our daily driving force.
Soieries du Mékong restores dignity and smiles to about sixty women by offering them sustainable work and responsibilities. Our weavers create scarves of exceptional quality, thus perpetuating the ancestral know-how of hand weaving.
Our Story
In 1995, during a mission in Cambodia for the NGO Enfants du Mékong, Philippe de Pougnadoresse met Neak Krou and her family in Banteay Chhmar. She told him that before the Khmer Rouge genocide, the women in this region had mastered the art of silk weaving. The transmission of this know-how was in jeopardy, as Neak Krou was the only one who still mastered this art.
At the same time, he realized that the situation of the families in this village, and particularly that of the women, was very precarious. Many of them were forced to leave their homes for dishonorable work in casinos on the Thai border…
From these two observations, a bold idea was born: to revive this exceptional art of silk weaving to allow these women to find meaning in their lives and build a future for their families.
Since its inception, Soieries du Mékong has trained around a hundred weavers. These women see their art protected and their status as artisans recognized.

Our story is one of commitment.
Because the empowerment of women is at the heart of our mission, Soieries du Mékong regularly trains new Cambodian artisans to keep the Khmer art of hand-weaving alive.
Thanks to you, in 2025, we provided dignified work to 61 people throughout the year; as a result, 300 people benefited and were able to contribute to the economic life of a village of 19,000 residents.
Our team crafted 6,750 pieces, divided between our Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer collections as well as orders from our partners (Eric Bompard, National Bank of Cambodia…)
