as long as they need it...
Enfants du Mékong has been working since 1958 for the education of the poorest children through sponsorship.
The story of Enfants du Mékong
In Vientiane, René Péchard, a French dentist, one day met two 5-year-old children begging on the street. Deeply moved, he undertook to enroll them in school. Within a few weeks, dozens of children came to him, hoping to be able to go to school as well.
This initiative would give birth to Enfants du Mékong.
A few decades later, despite improvements in living conditions in Southeast Asia, many very poor families are still being left behind.
Today, Enfants du Mékong supports more than 95,000 children, including 24,000 through sponsorship, by acting primarily on behalf of children and families facing the most difficult situations: street or slum children, young girls whose education is threatened, and refugee or disabled children.
Certified by IDEAS, the association relies on more than 1,000 local managers and volunteers to ensure close monitoring of the children and families, within a rigorous approach to governance, financial management, and the effectiveness of its actions.
In Cambodia, Enfants du Mékong has been active since 1991
In a country ravaged by the tragedy of the Khmer Rouge, the association carries out its work in the most remote areas, where others do not go.
Over a few decades, the association has participated in the construction and renovation of hundreds of schools and homes, enabling thousands of children to access education.
Since then, several thousand Cambodian children have been supported in their schooling and have been able, thanks to education, to build a better future.
In the village of Banteay Chmar and its surroundings, the association supports numerous schools, from early childhood through to high school.
Enfants du Mékong and Soieries du Mékong
It was by observing the dramatic situation of certain women and mothers in Banteay Chhmar that the idea of reviving silk weaving was born.
Enfants du Mékong carries this project with pride and enthusiasm. The link to the association's social mission is direct: not only can the weavers live with dignity and provide for their families, but they can also send their children to school. By purchasing a Soieries du Mékong product, you are participating in this wonderful adventure and enabling us to continue our work with these weavers.
