Phalla spoke about his role as quality controller. Through the difficulties of her job, she showed us her strength and determination to overcome them.
A fulfilled young mother...
Phalla is a young woman born in Banteay Chhmar. An only child and her father died in her youth, she lived alone with her mother throughout her childhood. The latter works in the fields like a large number of Khmers in this very rural region.
Today, Phalla is 25 years old. She married in 2015 to a man she met in Thma Puok, a village south of Banteay Chhmar. They have a 3-year-old daughter together!
An empowering job...
Phalla learned sewing with the NGO Enfants du Mékong and first worked on the finishing touches for Soieries du Mékong scarves. Then, she changed position to control the quality of finished products. She must check the washing of the scarves by the craftsmen, the sewing of the logo and the pompom, the ironing, etc.
Its main role is to supervise the work carried out in terms of finishing touches so that each product is of impeccable quality. She is also in charge of training the finishing team and takes the opportunity to encourage the craftsmen to take responsibility.
She had to learn to integrate into a team where the members were sometimes much older and more experienced than her.
A respected entourage...
Phalla is surrounded daily by her family: her mother, her husband and her daughter. As with many Cambodians and according to the culture of her country, she has a deep respect for the person who gave her life, her mother.
Furthermore, within her work environment, Phalla has very high regard for Samrach, Administrative and Human Resources Director. His empowering role and his commitment to the social dimension of Soieries du Mékong make him a pillar for the company and a model for Phalla.
Phalla testifies to the challenges she encounters in her profession but overcomes this through her energy and commitment at Soieries du Mékong.
