With the support of the Hermès Corporate Foundation, a first village workshop was built to provide better support for Soieries du Mékong weavers.
As part of its “Know-how and transmission” axis, the Hermès Corporate Foundation supports Soieries du Mékong in its project to promote and transmit the know-how of silk weaving in Cambodia.
This project is structured around two axes: the continuing training of weavers in weaving techniques and the creation of village workshops, real living spaces, which will improve the monitoring of weavers.
The creation of village workshops
Previously, the weavers worked at home on traditional looms, loaned by Soieries du Mékong. The management team visited them once a week to support them personally. However, this organization quickly found its limits in the face of Soieries du Mékong's desire to train a larger number of artisans.
These workshops are created in the heart of the villages to bring together 15 weavers, themselves supervised by a workshop manager. This is selected from experienced weavers who wish to improve their skills.
